Monday 4th February 2013 marked the second birthday of Derby City Centre Chaplaincy! It’s hard to believe that so much has happened since we gathered for the official launch at the Quad on 4th February 2011. We were delighted to welcome Bishop Alastair, who spoke at the launch, to join us once again, and Ian Hinds, from Partnerships For Better Business (UK) cut the birthday cake. It was a real opportunity for celebration, for sharing stories of how God has used the chaplaincy over the last 2 years, and for looking forward to the future together. The challenges are huge – there is a a need for more many chaplains in the retail sector, and the introduction of the education and social care sectors means more recruits are required in those areas too. But 4th February was a time to pause and celebrate…and pause and celebrate, we certainly did!
The Birthday Celebration was part of a training day for City Centre Chaplains and Workplace Chaplains in Derbyshire, in which we explored the significant issues of working in a multi-faith environment. The event was superbly facilitated by Revd Ray Gaston from the Queens Foundation in Birmingham, who challenged us to think both theologically and practically about the impact these issues have on our Chaplaincy work. We’re grateful for his input, and for the opportunity that the Partnership between Derby City Centre Chaplaincy and Workplace Chaplaincy in Derbyshire gives us to enjoy high quality training and to benefit from a wide range of chaplaincy experience.
